Nature by Night Tours June 2024We celebrated this year's Māori New Year by hosting a series of night tours at our local reserves. Attendees learnt about Matariki and the significance of the stars in Māori culture and our wildlife. We explored the fascinating nocturnal creatures in our reserves and conduct an insect survey using a light sheet. This 1-hour guided night tour concluded with a cup of hot chocolate to warm up. Out & About in May 2024We've been out and about planting trees at Lyford Reserve & Wairau Estuary Reserve and weeding & clearing rubbish at Auburn Reserve in preparation for more tree planting. We also ran a refresher on pest plants & predator identification and control techniques at Grow Forrest Hill (Forrest Hill Community Garden). Cost Effective Sustainable Living ExpoWe had an amazing line up of seminars and workshops at our FIRST cost effective sustainable living expo. The expo was aimed at helping our community tackle cost-of-living challenges through a sustainable and environmentally-friendly approach. Discover Pupukemoana 2023Discover Pupukemoana was a fun-filled, free family event by Takapuna North Community Trust and Pupuke Birdsong Project to raise awareness of the ecological beauty and threats to Lake Pupuke. Together, we discovered the unique ecological taonga of Pupukemoana through experience. There were guided snorkeling and kayaking tours, Pumphouse Theatre and Killarney Park guided tours, workshops such as Raranga (weaving), and talks on relevant lake issues such as water quality and bird rescue. Open and Connect: 3 Steps for LifeA free hands-on, family-friendly educational experience in Mandarin to learn how to respond in the event of a cardiac arrest. Family Fun Circus DayMulti-talented artist, JP put on an interactive, exciting circus performance for kids during the school holidays.
